Holiday Magic at Disneyland® | What to Expect this Season
Few places do the holidays quite like Disneyland®. From the moment you step through the park gates, it’s clear you’re in for something extra special. Think nearly one million twinkling lights, festive music, themed parades, and over-the-top seasonal treats around every corner. If you’re planning your visit and wondering when do holidays start at Disneyland®, here’s what to expect during the most magical time of year in the happiest place on Earth.
When do the Holidays Start at Disneyland®?
This year, the holidays at Disneyland® Resort officially kick off on Friday, November 14, 2025, and run through Wednesday, January 7, 2026. That gives guests nearly two months to take in the cheery sights, sounds, and flavors across both Disneyland® and Disney California Adventure® Park. 2025 is also the park’s 70th anniversary, so expect the festivities to be even bigger!
Weekends throughout the season, Thanksgiving week, and the week of Christmas through New Year’s Day are the busiest. If you’re hoping to enjoy the magic with slightly fewer crowds or at a more leisurely pace, plan your visit for mid-November or early December.
Disneyland® Holiday Overlays & Special Events
Expect both parks to be decked out in hundreds of thousands of lights, oversized ornaments, and themed installations. The iconic Disneyland® Christmas tree towers 60 feet above Main Street, U.S.A., while Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle shines with icy-blue accents and nightly snowfall.
Several rides also get holiday makeovers. Fan favorites include “it’s a small world” Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday, both of which feature unique Christmas-themed experiences during the season. In Disney California Adventure® Park, you’ll find a huge tree on Buena Vista Street and festive overlays in Cars Land. Radiator Springs turns into “Season’s Speedings,” complete with automotive-themed wreaths and decorations.
Also in DCA, the Festival of Holidays celebrates unique cultural traditions from around the world. It’s a highlight of the season, with lively music and dance performances to a Sip and Savor Pass featuring global holiday bites. Expect flavors inspired by Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and more. There’s also the highly anticipated World of Color Happiness! nighttime spectacular. On the Disneyland® side, you can watch holiday fireworks and catch the Christmas Fantasy Parade.
Tips for Holiday Visits
The holidays are one of the busiest times in the park all year, so planning ahead is crucial.
Use the complimentary Disney Genie service to plan out your day and maximize your time in the park. Pair this with Lightning Lane, which allows you to skip the line for popular attractions. Mobile ordering food through the Disneyland® app can also save significant time, especially when holiday snacks are in high demand.
Even if you’re a park veteran and typically skip character meet-and-greets, it’s worth the few extra minutes during Christmas in Disneyland®. Beloved characters appear in festive outfits you won’t see any other time of year.
Finally, pack layers. Anaheim is generally mild, but winter temps often dip in the evenings. You’ll want to be cozy during the “Believe…In Holiday Magic” fireworks!
