Beat The Heat At Disneyland®
Wondering how to beat the heat at Disneyland® this summer? We’ve got your guide to navigating Disneyland® in July below. Keep reading to learn how to prepare, what to bring, and other helpful tips to make your day enjoyable.
What’s Disneyland® Weather In July Like?
Even though August is the hottest month at Disneyland®, July isn’t too far behind. Summer temps soar during this time, reaching upwards of 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the warmest parts of the day.
If you’re from a cooler climate, you may be quite uncomfortable in this type of weather. If you are from the Southern U.S. or another warmer area, the weather may feel normal to you.
6 Cool Ways to Escape Disneyland® Heat
1. Get to the Park Early
Getting to the park as early as you can gives you more time for rides when there are fewer people around and outdoor temperatures are the lowest. Try to get there about 30-60 minutes before rope drop, which is right at 8:00 a.m.
2. Ride Grizzly River Run First
Grizzly River Run is currently the only water attraction at Disneyland® this summer, until Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens later this year. If you plan to ride, it’s a good idea to do this in the morning before lines get long. The later (and hotter) it gets, the more people will head to this ride to cool off.
You can also ride at night after the sun goes down. Fewer people will be there, but the temps are still going to be high enough that the ride will be a welcome respite from the heat.
3. Opt for Air-Conditioned Rides
This seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many people don’t plan their summer trips around air conditioning escapes. Staggering hot rides with attractions that offer AC can prevent you from getting too hot without sacrificing fun.
Disneyland® Attractions With AC
- Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- It’s a Small World
- Mickey’s Philharmagic
- Main Street Cinema
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
4. Try Single-Rider Lines
Single rider lines tend to be the fastest at Disneyland®, so these are a good option if you have adults or older kids in your party who are fine riding alone. Just have a designated meet up outside the ride in case people get off at different times.
Single Rider Attractions at Disneyland®
- Space Mountain
- Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
- WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure
- Matterhorn Bobsleds
- Incredicoaster
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Grizzly River Run
- Goofy’s Sky School
- Soarin’ Around the World
5. Avoid the Hottest Places
In addition to rides with AC, it’s also important to note which rides and lines offer the least in terms of comfort. Park-goers suggest avoiding rides with less shade or little airflow, like:
- Mickey and the Magical Map
- Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
- Alice in Wonderland
- Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough
- Toy Story Midway Mania
- Autopia
6. Take Basic Precautions
One of the most important things to do is take simple precautions to protect yourself and your kiddos from the heat. Staying hydrated is key and the park offers free water from quick-service restaurants throughout the park. You should also pay attention to your body and know when you need to get out of the sun and go somewhere cool.
What to Bring
It’s a good idea to have one of each item below for every member in your party:
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Sun hat
- Umbrella
- Sunglasses
- Water mister
- Cooling towel
- Handheld fan
You may also want to have a light jacket on hand for when the sun goes down. Desert weather gets pretty cool at night and you might get chilled more easily after a hot day outside.
Stay Close With a Room at Camelot Inn and Suites
Booking a hotel room close to the park gives you the option to get away to a quiet, air conditioned space until you’re ready for Round 2.
When you stay at Camelot Inn and Suites, you’ll be located directly across the street from Disneyland® on S. Harbor Blvd and can easily go back and forth for napping or a dip in the pool whenever it’s too hot or the park is overcrowded.
